Iran is rich in wetlands and therefore huge numbers of waterbirds winter there. Edwin Winkel and I counted the wetlands in the Golestan province in northeastern Iran. We also visited the Golestan National Park. The beautiful countryside, the birds and the hospitality of the Iranians did make it a very special trip. Areas visited included Point Pelee, Rondeau, Niagara Falls, Long Point, Carden Plain, Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario and Tawas Point and Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan. It was a very succesful holiday with many warbler species, woodpeckers and many more species seen in a relaxing pace. I highly recommend it!
